Magnolia Trees
I’d like to thank whoever peppered my neighborhood with Magnolia trees: always the first to bloom — often, two or three weeks before the weather’s consistently warm, which helps the wait — and such a pleasant surprise to find on your block.
Sure, the leaves fall off and stink. And, sure, Magnolia was so bad that I walked out of the theater — and then, when I tried to watch it again last weekend on cable, made it through even less. But the flowers make me smile every spring; and every spring I intend to walk around and take pictures. Yesterday, I finally got off my ass and took this one (among others):
